This week's featured stallion is the premium licensed Oldenburg stallion D'Dur (Donnerhall/Landadel/Zeus) who stands in Somersby, New South Wales, with his owners Amanda and David Shoobridge at Revelwood Warmblood Stud.

D'Dur, born 1998, was bred by Paul and Hilde Wendeln of Gestüt Wendeln. He was second Reserve Champion at the Oldenburg Stallion Licensing in Vechta, Germany in 2000. D'Dur's overall total for his 70 day test, held at Adelheidsdorf, Germany in 2001 was 99.61 points (HR), with a dressage score of 109.76 points (HR) and 88.25 for jumping (HR)*.

D'Dur is out of Gestüt Wendeln's Bundeschampion mare, St. Pr. St. C'Dur (Landadel/Zeus/Armand). In 1998, C'Dur became the German Elite Mare Champion. She produced four licensed offspring, one of which was D'Dur. At the 70th anniversary auction in Vechta, Germany (April 2009), a D'Dur son was sold for 20,000 Euros to the United States.

Warmblood stallion of the week: Capone (Imp) (Carprilli/Goldtstern/Waldschütz): http://www.brockhurststud.com/stallion.htm

Brockhurst, established by Scott Donner and Georgie Ray is located in the picturesque Adelaide hills. The property is located adjacent to the extensive Kuitpo forest.

We have been watching the amazing development of sport horse breeding in Australia for the last 10 years. Australia can produce International Quality Horses! With this in mind we have developed our small group of broodmares. All with superior bloodlines – Jazz (Fz), Falkland (Fz), Contango II (Imp) and Salute (Imp).

In 2008 the unexpected opportunity to purchase 'Capone' – an imported Oldenburger Stallion – widely known for producing outstanding progeny from all types of mares. As a sire Capone has the essential ingredients for success at the highest level- movement, athleticism and proven dominant genetics. As a sire he has one non-negotiable quality - temperament. This is often referred to as the 'Capone Temperament'.

Since his arrival in June 2008 Capone has lived up to his reputation. He is a joy to handle and an outstanding ride. We are looking forward to his impact on the South Australian Breeding Scene. His Chilled semen will of course be available to breeders throughout Australasia.

The Australian bred stallion Grisham (Gribaldi/Northern Congress/Recalled) has died due to a rare and acute case of gastroenteritis toximia. After many hours trying to save him at Epsom Equine Hosptial, eventually the virus proved too much, reeking havoc through his main organs and was therefore put to sleep. The immediate issues are critical and far-reaching across Queensland. Hundreds of horses are lost, traumatised and injured – entire studs have had their stock simply swept away. Many horses that have been located alive are in immediate need of assistance due to injury and many which have survived, whether injured or unscathed will suffer health issues from contamination of food and water sources and bacterial infections which will build over the coming weeks from mosquito plagues, lesions and skin conditions such as greasy heel and rain scald. Read more from Equestrian Queensland.

Equestrian Australia and Equestrian Queensland have launched the Flood Emergency and Recovery Assistance website to aid those in need of assistance with flood stricken horses during Queensland's current flood crisis.

On a personal note, it was fantastic to hear my local Horseland store in Ipswich providing immediate supplies to horses at the Ipswich Showgrounds. I would like to encourage horse owners to support the businesses that continue to support our horse communities in times of need. Well done.

Who do you call when your vehicle breaks down away from home and you need to get your horse home or to a safe place, when you need emergency overnight accommodation for your horse, you're injured away from home (e.g. at a show) and need help with your horses? Who do you call when you're at a show and have a flat tyre, flat battery, have lost a shoe and just generally need a helping hand?

The Emergency Equine Assistance (EEA) aims at putting people in touch with other EEA members who can assist in a variety of equine-related emergency situations. EEA members receive a members' emergency contact list each month. The contact list, kept in members' vehicles, is a source of contacts in equine related emergency situations. EEA is a mutual support network of equestrian people who are both givers and receivers of emergency equine assistance, set up by equestrians for equestrians.

Please help each other and support Emergency Equine Assistance.
